Chanson pour Amine - Intro by Hakim and Q&A

Chanson pour Amine

The Algerian-Dutch theatre performer Hakim Traïdia will introduce the film with a short story. The screening is followed by a Q&A led by film maker Karim Traïdia with Nassera Dutour and director Alberto Bougleux about the reasons why the Algerian government has never been willing to offer insight into the disappearances. What would need to happen to compel Algeria to release that information?

In the 1990s, an estimated 6000 people disappeared in Algeria. The government has never offered a clear explanation for the fate of these missing men and women. It is a lack of information that would frustrate anyone – especially if your son is one of the people who disappeared. Since the disappearance of her son in 1997, Nassera Dutour has devoted her time to shattering the silence surrounding the disappearances. She is the spokesperson for the Collective of the Families of the Disappeared in Algeria (CFDA).

Karim Traïda

Karim Traïda was the filmmaker behind international cinema hit The Polish Bride, which was nominated for a Golden Globe and other awards. Originally from the Algerian village of Besbes, situated near the front lines of the French-Algerian war that dominated the land of his birth in the 1950s, Traïda studied sociology in Paris and came to the Netherlands in 1979. He graduated from the Dutch Film and Television Academy in 1991. Karim is the brother of actor Hakim Karim Traïda.
