For the American people, illustrious gay rights activist Harvey Milk was a friend, loved one, activist, icon and source of inspiration. His life changed the course of history and his courage changed people’s lives. Milk was the first avowed gay politician in the US, and in that capacity he championed equal rights and opportunities for gays. In 1977, he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. This accomplishment changed Milk’s profile: the gay rights activist had become a hero for all Americans.
Much-acclaimed 'Milk' is an intimate portrait of the last eight years of Harvey Milk’s life. Milk pursued his ideals at a time when prejudices and violence against homosexuals were considered just. He encouraged men and women to ‘come out of the closet’ and tried to mobilize the masses against discriminatory laws. But at what price?
