Filmhuis Den Haag zaal 3
Italy in the Nineties. The country is startled by a series of terrorist acts committed by the mafia and political opponents. Ministers are kidnapped, and captains of industry disappear to be found dead. In the midst of all this violence – coldly yet aesthetically portrayed by director Sorrentino – one man seems to be untouchable: prime minister Andreotti (Toni Servillo), one of the most influential politicians in post-World War II Italy. Whether at official ceremonies, in discussion with his ministers, speaking to journalists or in private with his wife, Andreotti moves in mysterious ways.
And then suddenly everything changes. Once untouchable, Andreotti is himself called to account by the government and has to stand trial for supposed links with the mafia. Will Andreotti be able to keep on his mask and save his skin?
