Half Moon - Q&A Bahman Ghobadi
vrijdag, March 26, 2010 - 22:00
The film is followed by a Q&A with Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi. Moderator is Eefje Blankevoort.
Old Kurdish musician Mamo obtains permission to give a concert in Iraqi Kurdistan after the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime. He has waited 35 years for the opportunity to perform again in Iraqi Kurdistan. He wants to share this experience with his sons, so he has his chauffeur drive past several villages to collect his offspring. Once everyone is on board, though, the chauffeur tells them they’d better refrain from the journey. Indeed, an old and wise villager has predicted that dreadful things await them at full moon. Mamo and his next-of-kin musicians’ route promises to be full of obstacles. Yet in the end, his perseverance yields them adventure, emotion and sheer magic.
'Half Moon', that won the Public Award at the Istanbul International Film Festival, is a light-hearted road movie set in a political context.
Director Bahman Ghobadi, who will attend the 2010 Movies that Matter Festival as a guest of honour, also directed the opening film 'No One Knows About Persian Cats'. 'Turtles Can Fly' is part of the 2010 festival’s retrospective dedicated to Ghobadi’s work.
