'Balibo' is a political thriller based on a true story of crimes that have been kept secret for thirty years. As Indonesia is about to invade Timor Leste in 1975, five Australian journalists disappear during their stay in the city of Balibo, Timor Leste. Four weeks later, young and charismatic José Ramos-Horta persuades experienced foreign correspondent Roger East to travel to Timor Leste. While East is doing his utmost to find out what happened to the five journalists, the threat of an impending invasion grows. In the meanwhile a friendship develops between East and the man who was to become president of Timor Leste and win the Nobel Peace Prize.
